It was good to get back into swing of things and attend a Danville City Council meeting in person. Here’s some Random Thoughts about it… ( Editor’s Note : This is about the Tuesday, November 15th meeting) I’m going to start it off by saying that the current mix of City Council members are the best Danville City Council that I can ever remember. All of them are open to citizen’s comments and have a strong knowledge of the issues. They may not vote the way I want to on some of the issues, but I always have respected their point of view. In the same line of thinking, Danville will have a great loss if David Luther does not run for re-election. Luther provides a strong voice of business knowledge which is sorely needed in today’s governmental workings. That...

County sheriff elections are bad for the amount of animosity… but they make for good TossUps! (Editor’s Note : I’ve had my differences with HalifaxTalk before, but I’ll defend anybody that is dealing with a potential free speech issue.) HalifaxTalk: Jeff’s FOIA Stuff Let’s go over some background information quickly. Jeff Oakes is the former sheriff of Halifax County who was defeated by Stanley Noblin in the 2007 election cycle. Oakes is still quite bitter over that and is Noblin’s biggest critic. We’re now in the 2011 election cycle and Oakes is trying to dig up any less-than-favorable information about the Noblin administration. Oakes claims he has used the Freedom Of Information Act to get lots of documents that will show Stanley Noblin s...

KANSAS CITY, Mo., August 22, 2011 - The White House will not be sending a representative to the Veterans of Foreign Wars 112th National Convention in San Antonio, Texas, drawing harsh criticism and a rebuke from the leadership of the nation's largest combat veteran's organization. "When the President is unable to attend, it has always been customary for the White House to choose a high-level administration offic...

More unconfirmed rumors say that they have an agreement to purchase customer records from Professional Pharmacy & Commonwealth Pharmacy. At work today, I talked to Walgreens’ media relations department who said “No Comment”, but you could tell there was a smile in his voice. I called Professional Pharmacy and Commonwealth Pharmacy but nobody “was available for comment” and nobody returned my calls. That’s leading me to put more credence into the rumor. I also spoke with Danville’s economic development office and they said that they have no ...
