I may not be on Star News anymore, but I’ll still try to bring you the best news coverage in Danville. The news doesn’t happen just between the hours of 1 & 9 PM, folks. Here’s the latest from the Danville Police Department… On 11-15-11 at approximately 7:15 PM, Danville Police responded to a report of a subject admitted to the Danville Regional Medical Center suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Police interviewed the 52 year-old Danville resident and he reported he was in the 1100 block of West Stokes Street when he got into an altercation with some individuals there. Some thoughts about tonight’s Danville City Council meeting… (2011/11/16)

It was good to get back into swing of things and attend a Danville City Council meeting in person. Here’s some Random Thoughts about it… ( Editor’s Note : This is about the Tuesday, November 15th meeting) I’m going to start it off by saying that the current mix of City Council members are the best Danville City Council that I can ever remember. All of them are open to citizen’s comments and have a strong knowledge of the issues. They may not vote the way I want to on some of the issues, but I always have respected their point of view. In the same line of thinking, Danville will have a great loss if David Luther does not run for re-election. VFW Foundation Announces 2011 Burger King" Unmet Needs Fundraiser (2011/10/25)

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation is proud to announce that for the fifth consecutive year, participating Burger King® Restaurants will be raising funds for the VFW’s Unmet Needs Program throughout the month of November through the annual Burger King® Unmet Needs Fundraiser. First Amendment Prevails at Houston VA National Cemetary (2011/10/25)

The Veterans of Foreign Wars today(Friday) declared victory in a Federal Lawsuit ( Rainey v VA) filed over allegations of religious hostility and unlawful censorship by the VA and its director of the Houston National Cemetery. Federal District Judge Lynn N. Hughes signed a consent decree ordering the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) to lift the ban on prayer and the word "God" at national cemeteries, to revoke national policies hostile to religion, and to reopen the Chapel which identity was previously changed to "meeting facility" at the Houston National Cemetery. Texas-based Liberty Institute filed suit on behalf of the VFW over allegations of religious hostility and unlawful censorship by the VA and its director of the Houston National Cemetery. National Convention Wrap Up (2011/9/14)

America’s largest organization of combat veterans has elected a Vietnam War veteran to head the 1.5 million-member Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Richard L. DeNoyer, a resident of Middleton, Massachusetts, was elected VFW Commander-in-Chief on September 1, 2011, during the 112th VFW National Convention, held August 27 – September 1, in San Antonio, Texas. RumorCentral: Walgreens coming to Danville? (2011/8/16)

Walgreens has stores located all around the Danville area, so it seems logical. The rumor mill has been flying around the SouthsideCentral region saying that Walgreens is going to open a store in Danville. More unconfirmed rumors say that they have an agreement to purchase customer records from Professional Pharmacy & Commonwealth Pharmacy. At work today, I talked to Walgreens’ media relations department who said “No Comment”, but you could tell there was a smile in his voice. I called Professional Pharmacy and Commonwealth Pharmacy but nobody “was available for comment” and nobody returned my calls. That’s leading me to put more credence into the rumor.
