At the South Hill Town Council meeting on may 14, 2007, on behalf of the Town Council, Mayor Horne presented the Cook family with a plaque containing a Resolution of Thanks and Appreciation for Councilman Cook’s 17 years of service on the Town Council. Councilman Cook served on many different committees of the Council, and currently was the Chairman of both the Cemetery and Fire Department Committees, and served on the Personnel and Street Committees as well. He also served as an elected official on the Southside Planning District Commission since 1993.

The FREE lunch will consist of ham biscuits, chips, pasta salad, cheese and crackers and drink.
Announcements
Today, May 15 and Saturday, May 16 repairs and maintenance will be performed on the Town’s water tank located on East Main Street. Water users may experience some reduction in water pressure during this time. Normal pressure is expected to be restored by Monday, May 18.
Keith Corum, Committee Chairman, is asking for assistance in helping to fund the South Hill Skate Park Project, which upon completion will be a high quality “skate friendly zone” located on the upper field at Centennial Park. Donation checks should be made payable to the South Hill Skate Park Fund, c/o Keith Corum, 420 Jeffreys Lane, South Hill VA 23970. The South Hill Farmer’s Market Opening Day is Friday, May 29. The Market will operate in the Market Square parking lot on Fridays and Saturdays, rain or shine, from 8 AM to 12:30 PM through Saturday, October 31, 2009. There is a $5 charge for each 10’ X 10’ vendor space, allocated on a first come-first serve basis. We welcome local producers of fruits, vegetables, bulbs, flowers, plants, herbs, honey, baked goods, eggs, homemade crafts, etc. We thank all those involved with making our Market successful.

The Masons of South Hill Lodge No. 297 AF&AM on Thomas St. are having a Spaghetti Supper on Feb. 21, 2009 from 5 pm to 8 pm. SpringFest 2008, sponsored by the South Hill Revitalization Committee, begins Saturday, May 10 from 10 AM to 3 PM, rain or shine in the downtown area. Arts, crafts, kids’ games and food and vendor booths are just some of the fun planned. Don’t miss this festive community event. Free admission.
The first South Hill Music Festival is scheduled on Saturday, May 10 after the SpringFest event at 2 PM in the upper field of Centennial Park. The DJ will start playing music at 2 PM. The bands, which include Blue Tuesday, Overtime and Ambush, will start performing at 3 PM.
Ribbon Cuttings
The new Fairfield Inn and Suites will be having a Ribbon Cutting and Tour on Thursday, May 8 at 11 AM at 150 Arnold Drive. Free refreshments.
